Good Tuesday Morning,
Today's Leed Topic
SS Credit 7.1: Heat Island Effect: Non-Roof
www.usgbc.org
Leed for New Construction Rating System Version 2.2
Intent
Reduce heat islands (thermal gradient differences between developed and undeveloped areas)
to minimize impact on microclimate and human and wildlife habitat.
Shade constructed surfaces on the site with landscape features and utilize high-reflectance materials for hardscape.
Consider replacing constructed surfaces (i.e. roof, roads, sidewalks, etc.) with vegetated surfaces such as vegetated roofs and open grid paving or specify high-albedo materials to reduce the heat absorption.
Try a white rubber membrane roof in lieu of the typical black.
Try a green Roof.
Try to provide less black top and more vegetative landscape.
Try concrete pavers that allow grass to grow over or in between. (ie Grasspave)
Shade parking areas with trees or buildings.
These are some tips to think about when designing your project.
Remember to Tread Lightly or Less

Be Happy

DO you think the pavement on a Green Roof may be counted toward this credit? (SSc7.1)
