Good Monday Morning to all,
Today's LEED Topic credit is for Alternative Transportation & Access to Public Transportation
This continues the review for a LEED (Leadership in Energy Environmental Design) in the category of Sustainable Sites. SS

Check out the United states Green Building web site for more information.
SS Credit 4.1: Alternative Transportation: Public Transportation Access
"Reduce pollution and land development impacts from automobile use."
This credit awards projects a point for developing projects near public transportation. These projects would allow users to use their cars less resulting in saving fossil fuels and daily traffic issues with wasted time and idle cars on the highway.
You should Google "how much gas do American's use each day stuck in traffic" for the latest numbers.
To qualify for point
"Locate project within 1/2 mile of an existing, or planned and funded, commuter rail, light rail or subway station.
OR
Locate project within 1/4 mile of one or more stops for two or more public or campus bus lines usable by building occupants."
The LEED document also mentioned surveying the users of the building to find if common paths exists for potential car pooling. They may also use this information in others ways. I will keep you posted if I find more information on this.
Have a great week.
Only four more points to talk about in the Sustainable Site Category then its off to
Indoor Environmental Quality
Talk soon
